Pickleball is a fast-paced, entertaining, and competitive racket sport that has seen extreme growth across the United States and the world in recent years.
With a whopping 36 million people in the United States alone playing the sport, now’s the time for you to get involved too.

However, whilst pickleball might be growing fast across the US, not everywhere has a local pickleball community that’s easy to find.
This will change as the sport continues to grow but for now, finding pickleball communities in your area can be tricky.
The fact you’ve landed here would suggest you’re currently experiencing that very problem. If you are, you’ve come to the right place.
In this post, we’re going to tell you everything you need to know about finding pickleball communities in your area.
We’ll look at where you can play, how you can find people to play with, and how to connect with your local pickleball community.
Where Can You Play Pickleball?
Before we show you how to find a local pickleball community, we’re going to tell you more about the places you can play.
It is important to know this, as you will have a greater chance of finding your local pickleball community.
Generally speaking, there are three different places to play pickleball.
Those places are indoor courts, outdoor courts, and public free courts. We’ve looked at each type of court in more detail below.
Indoor Courts
Indoor courts are a popular choice for players that prefer to play inside. Of course, they are also the primary place people play pickleball in the winter when the weather outside is too unforgiving.
Specially designed playing surfaces, you can find a lot of indoor courts in community centers, schools, and sports centers.
Some courts might be open to the public, whilst others might be private, requiring you to pay for access.
Outdoor Courts
The most popular type of pickleball court is an outdoor court. Outdoor courts can be found in abundance across America.
Usually free to use, most outdoor courts can be found at recreation centers, public parks, and tennis clubs.
It isn’t uncommon for private resorts to also have outdoor pickleball courts so keep your eyes peeled.
Public Free Courts
The third type of pickleball court used by players across America is public free courts. As you can probably tell, public free courts are completely free for the public to use.
There are a few common places you can find this type of court.
We recommend starting at your local recreation center or community center. Another good option is to look for a public park that has pickleball courts.
How To Find Pickleball Communities In Your Area?
Now you know the sorts of places pickleball courts can be found, it’s time to start answering the main question that brought you here.
When it comes to finding a pickleball community in your area, you’ll be pleased to hear you have a wide range of different options.
In the next part of this post, we’ve outlined all the best options you can try. We can confidently say that you’ll find your local pickleball community if you use one of the following options.
One of the easiest ways to find pickleball communities in your area is to do a quick Google search. Like it is for most things, Google can be your best friend when it comes to solving your pickleball problem.
A quick search for pickleball courts near you will display a list and map showing all the examples of nearby pickleball courts. From there, you can find the best place to play.
USA Pickleball
One of our favorite tools to use when looking for a pickleball community is the USA Pickleball Places2Play tool. This website will help you find the courts nearest to your location.
All you have to do to find your local courts is enter your location. The tool will do the rest for you. The tool currently tracks more than 8,000 courts across the US.
A great thing about this tool is that it updates locations every month.

PicklePlay
If you’d prefer to use an app to find your local pickleball community, give the PicklePlay app a try.
Unlike Google and USA Pickleball, this app won’t just help you find local courts. It will also connect you with local clubs, events, and local players that are willing to play.
You can create pickleball groups, organize games, and simply connect with the community.
This is a great way to get involved with pickleball in your area.
Local Community Centers
If you’ve had no luck with the options above, which we seriously doubt, you could always ring around local community centers to find out if they have a pickleball court.
If they do, there’s a good chance they also offer lessons or events.
This is a simple place to start off.
Local Tennis Centers
Tennis and pickleball are very alike. So much so, it could be worth checking out the local tennis centers in the area. As pickleball grows, more and more tennis centers are offering pickleball (see also: Tennis Sneakers VS Pickleball Shoes: What’s The Difference?)facilities.
Some centers are adding pickleball courts alongside their tennis courts, whilst others are building full pickleball centers.
It may come as a surprise, but you can also use Facebook to find your local pickleball community.
Using Facebook, you can search for local pickleball groups that post regular updates about pickleball in your area(see also: How To Find Pickleball Lessons In Your Local Area).
Usually, these groups give players the chance to schedule games, set up events, and learn more about the sport.
Some pickleball groups have as many as 60,000 members.
Can You Play Pickleball On Tennis Courts?
Yes, you can play pickleball on a tennis court. In fact, this is a great option if there aren’t any pickleball courts or communities in your area yet.
With a few simple modifications, you can easily play pickleball on a tennis court.
All you have to do is play on a smaller court.
Can You Play Pickleball At Home?
If push comes to shove, you could always play pickleball at home. You would have to build your own court on your driveway, but this could be the best option if there aren’t any courts nearby.
If you don’t have enough space to build a full-size court, consider building a half-size court instead.
